Haiku Poems

Here are the fantastic and worthy winners, plus some commendable runners-up, of St Peter’s School’s recent haiku competition in honour of National Poetry Day. These pieces of poetry are really something to be inspired by!

Nearer Than you Think

I’m still near you now,

Though the Earth can have no chill,

Nearer than you think.

(Year 9)

Lifecycle

Metamorphosis.

Caterpillar to cocoon;

Butterfly wings spread.

(Year 9)

Good or Bad

Change is mostly great,

Change is sometimes sinister

Change is a gamble!

(Year 10)

Goodbye Old Friend

Goodbye little dog.

You dug some holes in your day;

They’ll be hard to fill.

(Year 10)

First day of school

First day of school nerves

Brown is good apparently

New friendships to make

Haircut

Bushy and hairy

2 on the side, trim on top

Cool and refreshing.

(Year 11)
