The harrowing stories of human suffering can often be forgotten among the statistics of the First World War. This poem aims to remember the fallen who gave their todays so that we might have tomorrows.
“Hush, hush, your Daddy is dead,”
“Dead in the mud of the Somme.”
The troops were still and silent,
To mourn the dead and the gone.
While the battle had raged,
Monsters emerged from the men.
But when the gunfire had stopped,
The monsters retreated again.
Troops were brave while it lasted,
Firing their swanky new toys.
But in the aftermath the
Men were revealed to be boys….
